Semiconductor maker Zero-Error Systems (ZES) has unveiled the ZSOM-F01, the space industry’s first radiation-tolerant System-on Module (SOM) using a commercial off-the-shelf field-programmable gate array.
The ZSOM-F01 is a pre-integrated subsystem that combines core processing components with ZES’ radiation mitigation products on a single integrated module. This approach significantly reduces the time, complexity and risks associated with developing satellite payload systems.
Integrated with ZES’s proprietary radiation-hardened devices for protection against micro-SEL, SEL, and SEUs, the ZSOM-F01 is the first in a series of field-programmable gate array-based radiation-tolerant SOMs that ZES plans to introduce to the market.
The radiation hardened by design platform extends satellite longevity three-fold, minimising space debris while improving the return on investment of expensive payloads four-fold.
This product is an evolution in our product offering and reflects our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that address the demand for high-performing radiation tolerant systems on modules for space applications which are cost-competitive,” said ZES CEO Rajan Rajgopal. “Its powerful processing capabilities and compact design make it the perfect choice for designers who want to reduce their time to launch and enable edge computing platforms.”
