Latching Current Limiter (LCL)

Latching Current Limiter (LCL) provides individual over-current protection to payloads protecting the satellite power bus from any faulty current due to radiation induced Single Event Latch-up (SEL) that significantly compromise the reliability of the semiconductor devices and the mission lifetime.
LCL primary function is current limiting and power switching. ZES744 (60V/4A), ZES723 (28V/4A) are ‘Smart-LCL’ with unique smart-monitor with two modes of operations: Latched or Re-triggerable, with built-in smart current limitation for repetitive overloads and embedded current sensing and digital status for system monitoring.

Smart LCL has unique smart-monitor with two types of operations: Latched or Re-triggerable comes with built-in smart current limitation for repetitive overloads.
Latched refers to a circuit that holds its state (e.g., ON or OFF) even after the input signal is removed, while Re-triggerable refers to a circuit that can be triggered multiple times while it’s in a triggered state, extending the output pulse.
ZES LCL has embedded current sensing and digital status for system monitoring. Further, to enable design flexibility Smart-LCL offers configurable trip-off and recovery times, external setting of the under-voltage protection block hysteresis, and floating-ground connected to the true-ground through a decoupling resistor to operate in the floating-ground configuration.
